We were three adults who stayed in early October, 23. We arrived at 3:45, no one was there to greet us, so I called the host number. A very nice, very confused old man told me he didn’t know anything about it. Shortly afterwards, I received an email from the caretaker who gave me the code to the lock box. Then he showed up and walked us through the basics. He explained that the elderly gentleman had Alzheimer’s. We agreed his telephone number should not be on the VRBO site. The caretaker made sure we had his contact information and he ours. He was an extremely pleasant person, but clearly very busy. The pluses: close to town, a quiet area, a kitchen fairly newly renovated and adequately supplied, and a great little washing machine clothes horse The two double beds were fine.
The negatives: the place feels very tired. The shower stall door downstairs was swinging off its hinge. The pull out out couch, which I tried to use to get away from my snoring husband was broken and should be thrown out. It only had a thin mattress cover; all sheets and towels were locked away in a cupboard. The deck is in sore need of repair. We narrowly avoided stepping on two protruding and rusty nails. But the biggest problem was not the fault of the VRBO: a terrible stench drifts over the property and others from a nearby gelatin factory. For 4 of the 6 days we were there we could not sit out on the deck for morning coffees or evening drinks. Which is the whole reason I booked here.
