Ron was very nice and prompt in his texts while we were there. He's a lovely Christian man.The facility was very safe with multiple layers of protection, although you had to drive a bit off the main road, behind some other houses, to get there. It felt isolated and alone, and the kids/staff were scared at first (we arrived at night). Elements of the post were truthful, which is why I didn't give a one or a two, which is how the facility felt to us. The words "rustic" and "retreat' are correct - but only in a way. It's technically correct, but I think VRBO vacationers are still expecting a certain element of comfort and basic rental standards that were missing. So we were very disappointed - a lot of overgrown fields and grass around the houses, boxes/machinery/open sheds make it feel unkempt outside, the river area seemed hazardous, although the dock and the back trees were very beautiful and popular. The linens were very tough feeling and the beds very uncomfortable. We were isolated from the main road with the overgrown lot feel in some places. The kitchen was very well stocked, the security was nicely digital and we were safe, the water temperature was great. I gave it a higher review than I felt, because the pictures DO show curtains on the toilets, but the toilet/shower situation felt very awkward, especially since there were no locks on the doors, and the curtains did not feel secure enough to give you privacy when you were going to the bathroom. It DOES show pictures of bunk beds, and the linens were nicely prepared for us (they were tough and scratchy). Some of the set up is a bit awkward. And the pictures show pieces of the set up, but all together, it does not quite work. A detailed drawing of the layout is needed (walking through bunk bedrooms to get to the kitchen was kind of strange). For example, we stayed at the river house and retreat house. The river house was nicer, but in both houses, there was only one small couch (there was 23 of us). Where the couch was, there was no TV. The retreat house had plenty of seating, and the tables and chairs were great for meetings, and there was a TV, but there was no place to get comfortable and play games or watch TV. All in all, we became used to it, and we all enjoyed the togetherness. The kids loved going back and forth from the houses. I feel the facility has a lot of great potential, and I know the price is very good, but I would advertise more as a mission trip/camping facility.
